Austin Airport
Austin, the capital city of Texas, has an airport called Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Sometimes called AUS or KAUS, you can find the airport five miles or eight km from the central business district of the city. It's total land area is at 4,242 acres and it has two runways and a couple of helipads. It was only in the 23rd of May, 1999 that the Austin airport opened for public air traves. In 2006, the airport served 8, 216, 310 passengers. Such a volume is 7.5 percent higher than the number of travelers in 2005, which was 7,683,545.
The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is the official airport of Austin, Texas. Only five miles from the city's central business district, Austin Airport appears as a good teaser for the city. It's central terminal, the Barbara Jordan Terminal, has a performance area that often holds the performances of good local bands. Restaurants surround the performance area to give travelers a taste of the signature Austin cuisine. International dishes are also served by some of the restaurants for people who have foreign palates.
The Austin Airport's unique features have gradually increased the amount of travelers patronizing the airport. In 2005, a total of 7,683,545 passengers were served by the airport. The following year, that number of travelers served increased to 8,216,310, which amounts to a 7.5% increase. Things were looking stable for the airport until recently, airport officials decided to take a huge risk. The performance area and most of the concessions were displaced to accommodate a new low-cost airline, Viva Aerobus.
With the recent developments in Austin Airport, both locals and frequent visitors will surely miss the sounds and cuisines that the airport used to have. Then again, everyone can always go to the city proper to their fill of sounds and cuisines.
